British Airways allow mobile phone use on planes

Jakarta - Maskapai British Airways allows the use of mobile phones in a business class flight route from London to New York.

The withdrawal of the phone, as quoted from the Cellular-News, passenger planes can also access the Internet from a computer jinjing equipped with a GSM data modem. OnAir is a provider of technology to produce this service in the plane.

Maskapai equipped with OnAir service may choose to provide voice and data services, or access data only. This is determined by the time the flight and passenger preferences.

British Airways Chief Executive Willie Walsh menuturkan this service very useful for passengers who want to stay connected while on the plane and doing business activities or simply send an e-mail and short messages. "This service is ideal for business class flights from London City airport to JFK which we will introduce in this year," he said.

British Airways passengers can take high-speed data connectivity. In the service, OnAir uses Inmarsat SwiftBroadband, high service capacity of the fourth generation Inmarsat satellites.

Some airlines have also offers communications services in the aviation and menggandeng OnAir. Some of the other airlines planning to serve a similar service to the passengers. Among the names of the airlines are Air Asia, Airblue, Jazeera Airways, Kingfisher, Oman Air, Royal Jordanian, Ryanair, Shenzhen Airlines, TAM, TAP, and Wataniya Airways.

Since December 2007, the Mobile OnAir service has been used in flight in more than 54 cities of 25 countries in Europe and the Middle East. In the near future these services will also be introduced in Asia and Latin America. (RNI)
